Jiangsu going all out to build green manufacturing system

As a major manufacturing powerhouse, Jiangsu province has focused on "energy conservation and emission reduction" and "green manufacturing" to promote high-quality development, accelerate the utilization of green energy, comprehensively build a green manufacturing system, and create the number of national level green factories, ranking first in the country for two consecutive years. Green manufacturing has become an organic component and distinctive feature of high-quality development in the province's manufacturing industry.

Hengtong Group, which owns 7 national green factories, was awarded the industry's first certificate "Product Carbon Footprint Verification By Means of Digital Methods" in the second half of 2024.

In the process of building a green factory, Hengtong Group has relied on its digital foundation to develop a dual carbon digital platform for the optoelectronic industry, which connects the entire industry chain of carbon footprint verification. At the same time, it has seamlessly connected with the China Quality Certification Center, market supervision departments, and major testing institutions to achieve timely data exchange.

100 days after being awarded the carbon footprint certificate, Hengtong broke through the "carbon barrier" of international trade and further opened the door to the international market.

"Our workshop has achieved 100% green electricity usage by recycling all water resources," said Ju Linlin, Chief Carbon Expert of Hengtong Power Cable. "In the carbon reduction data statistics, we found that the energy consumption in 2024 has decreased by 40.1% from 2023. Through this certification, we have gained recognition from over forty countries and obtained a passport to open up the EU market."

The manufacturing industry is of paramount importance for energy conservation and emission reduction in Jiangsu. In the "14th Five-Year Plan" for industrial green development and the implementation plan for carbon peak in the industrial sector formulated by Jiangsu, the previous focus on "energy conservation and emission reduction" in the industrial sector has been expanded to the pursuit of the green development of the entire manufacturing system.

At the same time, Jiangsu has carried out special and daily energy-saving inspections on 535 units in key industries such as petrochemicals, papermaking, and non-ferrous metals, as well as in key areas such as data centers. The province has also made every effort to implement energy-saving technological transformation actions in the industrial sector and energy efficiency diagnosis for key energy consuming units while putting forward 125 energy-saving transformation suggestions for 44 key energy consuming enterprises.

Statistics show that in 2024, Jiangsu registered 216 energy-saving and carbon reduction technology renovation projects with a total investment of nearly 60 billion yuan.

95 green factories, 18 green industrial parks, and 14 green supply chain management enterprises in Jiangsu have been selected for the 2024 National Green Manufacturing Demonstration List announced by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, ranking first in the country.
